Sandvik Process Systems — part of the Sandvik Group, a global, high-technology engineering business — is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of steel belts used to transport or convey products through processing systems. Applications in the food industry range from bake ovens, cooling/solidification systems and freezers to simple conveyors.
Sandvik’s steel belts have been used for processing chocolate, candy, bakery and other confectionery products for almost 100 years.
The company supplies belts for use in OEM systems (e.g., bake ovens and freezers), and also manufactures complete conveying units. These include a new Clean Conveyor for food applications, incorporating features such as all-stainless steel framework, easy-to-clean design, food-approved bearings, and IP65 motor.
The flat surface of a steel belt means there are no joints or crevices in which germs can hide. Its smoothness means cleaner, easier discharge at the end of a conveying or processing line. Stainless steel can also be subjected to any method of cleaning — steam, pressure, detergents, brushes, chemicals, even aggressive scrapers — to ensure the lowest levels bacteria.
The company has recently introduced an innovative cleaning service that streamlines cleaning operations on steel belts used in food processing operations. The Sandvik QuickCleaner works by blasting salt onto the belt surface at high pressure, cleaning, degreasing and sanitising in one efficient operation.
Cooling is a major application for steel belts, and one in which Sandvik has end-to-end process expertise, supplying not only the steel belts, but also associated feeding, cooling and control equipment. These systems are widely used for cooling and solidifying, with applications including chocolate, sugar mass, caramel, gelatine, hard melt candy, nougat, nut brittle and more.
Offering streamlined operation and maximum uptime, the Rotoform® 4G, the most advanced version of its GMP-suitable granulation system, introduces a number of system enhancements including easier cleaning, reduced maintenance and improved product quality.
