SIG launches ultra-convenient combiMaxx closure for optimal product flow

18 Oct 2019 --- Aseptic system and solutions provider SIG has launched the combiMaxx closure for improved consumer convenience. An innovation with a large pouring diameter of 25mm, combiMaxx offers an optimal product flow and stream controllability. The large cap makes it easier and more comfortable for consumers to open and reclose the pack in one easy step.

A highly visible, tamper-evidence ring gives consumers the confidence that the package has not already been opened. Fully resealable and leak-proof, combiMaxx also ensures that opened packs can be stored safely in the fridge.

As part of SIG’s dedication to offering the most sustainable packaging solutions on the market, the material-saving design of combiMaxx uses approximately 4.5 percent less plastic than combiSwift.

Easy, low-cost implementation
Since the base plate dimensions and sleeves remain unchanged, SIG has made it simple for existing customers to switch from combiSwift to the new combiMaxx closure. The switch would not require “major investment,” SIG indicates.The combiMaxx closure consists of a flange with an integrated cutting ring, a visible tamper-evidence ring and a large cap. The closure is applied over an overcoated hole.

Additionally, combiMaxx can be combined with all of SIG’s existing mid- and large-size carton formats, starting with combiblocSlimline, combiblocMidi and combifitMidi. Color options include white, red, blue and green, with additional colors available upon request.

“The transition for our customers to use the new closure system is easy to implement without any significant cost,” adds Bertling. “We want to ensure the food and beverage industry can adapt quickly to fast-paced consumer needs to guarantee ongoing competitive advantage.”

In other SIG news, UK start-up Drinks Cubed has launched a premium mineral water, Water Cubed, in SIG’s combidome carton bottle in a bid to be the lowest carbon footprint drinks brand by 2022.

SIG launched a flagship project in Bangladesh that provides underprivileged children with healthy school meals using surplus crops, under its charity arm Way Beyond Good Foundation.

The aseptic supplier conducted almost 3,000 interviews to better understand how consumers interact with QR codes. In Brazil and Europe, usage rates were fairly similar with just 7 percent and 8 percent of consumers, respectively, scanning QR codes several times a week. In China, however, this figure rose to 50 percent – with consumers predominantly hoping to gain financial rewards.
