Trends in consumer behaviour toward bigger and heavier packages are leading to growing markets in super strong carrier handles. In Finland especially, the popularity of twelve-packs of beer is catching on. WalkiGrip is a strong cloth laminate base that holds the handles in place. Staffan Johansson, CEO of Swedish handle producer Persson Innovation, believes that other countries will soon follow Finland’s example in large beer packs. “Finland is a pioneer in the use of twelve-packs and most Finnish breweries use our carrier handles,” says Mr. Johansson. Carrier handles are already a well-established product on the market. They are sold worldwide for heavy duty packages containing products such as detergent, cat litter and wine. Walki Wisa supplies WalkiGrip for carrier handles. The actual handle is made either from the same material or of plastic Durable WalkiGrip WalkiGrip is a multiple-ply laminate made up of two layers of kraft paper with polyethylene and HDPE cloth in between. Because of its strength, toughness and resilience, the material is perfect for both handles and the base holding the handles. “We recommend the product for all packages weighing over six and up to fifteen kilos,” says Mr. Johansson. In addition to handles, WalkiGrip laminate is also used, for example, as sack bottoms in the construction industry. Its main markets are located in Europe.
