The First piGrip Customer Proves the Modular Suction Cup Works Fine
Besides holes and threads, the metal surfaces are corrugated or filled with embossing which makes it very difficult to grip with a conventional suction cup.
Nov 2 2010 --- Finn-Power OY, part of the multinational Finn-Power group of companies specializing in sheet metal working technology, has become one of the first to use piGrip – the modular suction cup concept from Piab.
The application is a gantry robot sorting sheets coming out from a metal working machine. The sheets have very challenging surfaces for vacuum handling technology. Besides holes and threads, the metal surfaces are corrugated or filled with embossing which makes it very difficult to grip with a conventional suction cup.
After trying several different cups with poor results, the new piGRIP with soft yellow lip and firm bellows proved to work fine. Now the handling device for the gantry robot is equipped with approximately 100 piGrip modular suction cups.
