Tri-Wall’s splinter-free solution
A supplier of raw materials to the powder metallurgy industry packs 1,000-1600 kg of product in flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBC) shrink-wrapped to pallets. The bags were prone to abrasion damage from sharp edges such as nails and splinters found on the pallets. In addition customers were experiencing occasional contamination problems from wood dust and particles from the base of the bags.
DS Smith Tri-Wall’s solution is simple, practical and cost effective. A high performance triple fluted tray was designed so that during make-up four ‘feet’ drop down from each corner. These ‘feet’ are then used to locate the tray on the pallet forming a secure retaining area for the base of the FIBC, for filling and subsequently in storage and transit. The trays are made up and secured with tape to eliminate any concern for bag abrasion from the more normal staple fixing. Equally the three fluted corrugated tray with a heavy weight kraft outer liner is sufficiently resilient to eliminate the potential danger from pallet abrasion and prevent contamination problems from wood dust and particles from the base of the bags.
