Schubert Additive Solutions: Introducing the Partbox for easy “click and print” 3D printing
28 Apr 2022 | Schubert Additive Solutions
Speaking at Anuga FoodTec 2022, Marcus Schindler, Schubert Additive Solutions’ CEO, presents the new Partbox for convenient 3D printing. The Partbox offers fast on demand printing of manufacturing parts through a connected “click and print” digital warehouse. Schindler explains that by streaming parts, components can be transported more sustainably via data transfer and bring an end to costly physical storage.
This is Joshua, reporter Manuga Food Tech 2022.
I'm here at the Schubert stand with Marcus Schlinder, who is the CEO for Schubert Additive Solutions.
Welcome, Marcus.
What benefits can your Part Box 3D printer bring to customers?
Yeah, thank you, Joshua for having me here and yeah, looking forward to present you the Part Box today, and Part Box is the first part streaming platform of the world, and it offers the customer.
To print parts on demand wherever you want and when you need it, and a part streaming platform combines a digital warehouse, a printer which we've developed now, and also the material which we developed with a partner together and we also offer the services to re-engineer parts and make printing jobs and this combination is a is a part streaming platform and what offers.
The benefits of a digital warehouse, so a digital warehouse reduces the cycle time enormously for new parts or for parts for spare parts, rare parts, new format parts enormously because you don't have to store the parts physically anymore.
You store them digital and print them out when you need it and where you need it, so you eliminate all the transportation and reduce the cycle time and the delivery time.
The parts you save time and you save costs because you don't have to store the parts physically anymore.
You don't have to invest in the parts and so save money and save costs and with a focus on the part box, what makes it so special?
The part box is the only digital warehouse which makes it able to print the parts direct in your facility, so you do not need a supplier anymore.
The parts that are uploaded can be printed with the on-demand approach, so click and print.
So you search for the parts in the platform, and afterwards you can click on the desired part and the printer starts to print.
And so it's a whole package what we offer to our customers.
It's pretty interesting.
And in what ways can it be simplified for customers without prior knowledge of 3D printing?
Yes, so it's a very Simple process with the on-demand process, because otherwise other digital warehouses store the 3D model.
So we focus on the whole printing job, you know, the printing job includes not only the 3D model, also all the adjusted parameters for the part like the material, the used material, the acceleration, and everything else, and this all together is a printing job and the printing job.
It's like a DNA of a part, and this DNA we treasure in our part box, and so you do not need a supplier or something else.
Just click and print, and that makes it so easy to use and it's a plug and play system, so you only have one cable inside.
You plug it in and after 90 seconds you are connected to the digital warehouse.
So it's very easy to use for customers which are not.
Interested in a 3D printer, they should be interested in the parts.
So this is our approach.
OK, brilliant.
And intellectual property protection is obviously a key industry concern.
How can you guarantee secure data transfers when using this machine, this print box?
Yes, you're right, intellectual property is one of the most important things when you send files instead of material through the world, and intellectual property.
Makes sense and you have to put up two points.
So the first point is, in our opinion, the owner of the intellectual property should have the hands on the 3D printing job because he should decide who can print it and how often he can print it.
In other digital warehouses it's not possible because maybe you give the part away, the 3D model you give it away.
Or you sell the 3D model once and you do not have the hands on it anymore, so Pat offers you to have the hands on it and you as a user and the owner of the intellectual property, can decide who can print it, how often you can print it.
And the second step is the second point is also that data transfer is very important, so you have to be very secure with the data transfer.
And that's why we decided to have an end to end solution.
So the box is not integrated in a network.
It has a SIM card inside and we built up a 1 to 1, end to end connectivity from the digital warehouse to the part box to every part box in the world, so it's a SIM card inside and this makes it possible that we have only one direction.
So there's no button on the box.
There's no USB.
USB port on site.
The only way is through our digital warehouse, and that ensures a very secure way of data transport.
So these two things First, the owner of the intellectual property should decide, and the second is a very secure data transfer with an end to end solution.
OK, that makes sense.
Yeah, thank you.
And where are you seeing the most demand for this solution, 3D printing, which, which markets?
Which industries.
So not only the markets the packaging markets, so we come from the packaging industry and so we started with the packaging industry with the experience we collected years ago so we have experience of about 10 years in additive manufacturing so we started in the packaging industry, but the machinery industry is very interesting for us because you can print spare parts on the.
You can print ware parts on it.
You can print new format parts for robotic tools, for example, so we reduce the whole transportation and yeah you get we provide to you the the the printing job on our network and you are able to print it when you need it so you reduce all the transportation time and also first aid kits for example so.
We have some parts here that gap the time between a failure of a machine or the damage of a part to the shipment or to the arrival of the real part.
So just to get the time between, you can use it here.
You print the part out.
Maybe it only works for.
For weeks or something else, but it works and let the machine run.
But also tricks and tools and manufacturing processes for manually manufacturing processes, all this can be printed on the platforms that's brilliant.
Thank you for your time.
Thank you.
