Amcor features ClearCor for recycled PET ready-to-drink beverage container
27 Sep 2022 --- Amcor Rigid Packaging (ARP) has created ClearCor to create DairySeal – a new PET barrier technology for ready-to-drink dairy beverage containers. The bottles are recyclable and can be made with up to 80% recyclable materials.
ARP has designed a barrier from PET film to maintain the taste and freshness of dairy beverages. Additionally, ClearCor developed new technology creating a “concentrated capsulation” in the center of the preform, allowing more flexibility and resin options for the containers.
“With the development of our DairySeal line, we are able to offer PET packaging that helps improve sustainability for brands in the dairy alternatives, nutritional drinks and ready-to-drink coffee space,” says Greg Rosati, ARP VP of marketing & sales for specialty containers.
PET is recycled at a rate of 21%, according to Australian government statistics. “PET is the most recycled plastic in the world, with more than 1.8 billion pounds of used PET bottles and containers recovered in the US each year alone,” says Rosati.
PET bottles have the lowest emissions because of their lightweight properties and reduced energy required to produce them. Aluminum cans reportedly produce twice the emissions and glass three times when compared to PET bottles.
Further, a recent study by the National Association for PET Container Resources found the impact of a PET bottle on global warming and water usage was far less than a glass or aluminum container.
“When considering PET’s significant environmental advantages, the DairySeal line will help drive a circular economy where brands, consumers and the environment all benefit,” says Rosati.
Other companies are also looking for alternatives to PET, searching for more environmentally friendly options.
