Aptar launches innovative respiratory device on Amazon and tamper-evident baby formula closure
12 Jun 2020 --- Aptar Pharma has announced that its portable, patented PureHale respiratory device is the delivery system behind Blairex Laboratories’ new Breathe Free Essentials brand, sold exclusively on Amazon. This marks the first commercial launch worldwide of a brand using Aptar Pharma’s innovative PureHale respiratory technology. Meanwhile, Aptar Food + Beverage introduced a new closure called NEO for infant formula. NEO is tamper-evident and features a customizable in-molded scoop for precise and specific dosage.
Aptar Pharma’s PureHale is a portable and ready-to-use delivery solution designed for upper respiratory care. An alternative to traditional nebulizer technology, PureHale, when used with saline and other natural ingredients, distributes a fine, gentle mist to cleanse, moisturize and soothe the upper respiratory tract. This helps to reduce any irritations caused by coughs, colds, allergies, respiratory problems and dry nose/throat issues.
PureHale’s user-friendly system is based on Aptar Pharma’s well-established Bag-on-Valve technology which delivers a continuous, fine particle mist of approximately 20µm optimized for targeted deposition to the upper airways. Unlike traditional nebulizers, the PureHale system does not require batteries or the prefilling of a reservoir. Both quiet and lightweight, the device can be used with or without a mask, offering adaptable treatment options.
Blairex Laboratories’ has adopted the technology for its new Breathe Free Essentials brand. Breathe Free Essentials is formulated with moisturizing saline and 100 percent natural essential oils and available in three blends: Soothing, Relaxing and Clarity. Each Breathe Free Essentials kit comes with a personal face mask and adapter for easy on-the-go delivery.
“Blairex Laboratories has a history of offering products in innovative packaging and delivery systems. Breathe Free Essentials continues that legacy. We designed Breathe Free Essentials to create an on-the-go personal retreat, and hope to provide our customers with amuch needed moment to breathe,” explains Jeffrey Logston, President, Blairex Laboratories.
“PureHale’s innovative technology is meeting a new need in the marketplace for portable, on-the-go respiratory support. We look forward to this and future launches using PureHale,” adds Gael Touya, President of Aptar Pharma.
NEO closure for infant formula
Shortly before the PureHale launch, Aptar Food + Beverage introduced the NEO closure for baby infant formula. A tamper-evident closure with a customizable in-molded scoop for precise and specific dosage, NEO targets the needs of consumers for safer, cleaner and more functional products while keeping the infant formula protected and the brand reputation intact.
Safety is key for infant formula, which is why NEO is manufactured in a safe production environment called High Care. This protected area shields the manufacturing process and enhances safety and hygiene measures to the highest level to keep products free of any contamination. This innovative industrial environment was specifically designed to take into account the constraints, risks and regulations around the packing of sensitive milk formula powder.
The NEO closure integrates a flex-band that molds itself to fit a variety of containers while being firm. The flex-band was designed to guard and protect the infant formula from insects and has been validated by several independent laboratories. Its low application force is suitable for a mechanical or manual application and the centering mechanism helps to easily center the closure onto the can.
Aptar completed numerous studies to better understand the consumer journey, pain points and the intimate relationships between the package and the user. As a result, NEO was designed to be handled with one hand thanks to its ergonomic shape and its robust hinge. Upon opening the closure, consumers can see that the customized scoop is not touching the infant formula, promoting less contamination.
With one hand consumers can unlock, use and replace the scoop on the holder, keeping feeding time clean and easy. Once finished, the lid can be easily resealed by pressing the press-to-close area. The audible click gives consumers peace-of-mind that the container is closed and the infant formula protected.
NEO comes in 99 mm and 127 mm diameters, which can be sealed onto all standard infant formula containers, whether they are metal or composite. NEO can also be molded to fit a brand’s image and allows companies to choose between three different manufacturing finishes: embossed, in-mold labeling or bi-injection molding.
In May, Aptar reported that it had achieved ISO 14064 certification for energy and greenhouse gas emission reporting. The company plans to announce Science-Based Targets later this year as it targets a net-zero emissions future.
