Britvic Goes One Trip
Rockware has adapted its manufacturing processes over the past few years to produce much lighter weight bottles made from a higher proportion of recycled glass.
24/02/07 Britvic has given its juices and mixer ranges a complete makeover in conjunction with Rockware Glass. The result is a new contemporary one-trip glass bottle satisfying the needs of on-premise consumers and the trade with a design that closely reflects premium spirit branding cues. The non returnable 125ml and 200ml (NRB) bottles are one hundred per cent recyclable.
Britvic is moving from returnable to recyclable glass bottles in both Britvic and Pepsi brands, mirroring the trend in the premium packed lagers and premium packaged spirits sectors. The previous method of returning empty bottles to depots for washing and refilling will be phased out by the end of 2008.
The stylish yet environmentally friendly packaging is specifically designed to meet the needs of contemporary drinkers for attractive, quality products that are totally recyclable. Two flavours that are in double-digit growth – cranberry and ginger beer – are being added to the range, and there are product improvements to ginger ale and grapefruit juice.

At the same time, with its long term glass recycling partner, Berryman Glass, it has expanded its collection and cullet treatment facilities to meet increased demand from its customers.

The lorry journeys to and from depots will be drastically reduced; customers will be able to recycle our bottles alongside other brands; consumers will get a top quality glass bottle every time.”
Earlier research carried out for Rockware by PIRA highlights some of the key benefits of recyclable bottles for the whole supply chain. Pub and hotel operators continue to express a preference for recyclable bottles on the basis of quality, branding, storage, disposal and administration, provided a well-managed system is in place.
"We are keen to support the on-trade with a range of recyclable bottles that are more appealing to consumers, so that our customers can used the bottle as a key positioning factor, "says Rod Simmons, Sales Manager, Soft Drinks, Rockware Glass. "Scuffed or dull looking bottles reflect poorly on the brand," he adds.
