Chobani launches squeezable Greek yogurt in resealable pouch

24 Aug 2018 --- Chobani has introduced a new Greek yogurt condiment packaged in a squeezable, resealable pouch. The pouch is designed to increase ease-of-handling over customary yogurt pots and is ideal for squeezing the yogurt on to meals. Chobani tested a variety of squeezable tubes in the development phase and finally settled on a recloseable top-down pouch for dispensing Chobani Savor.

“It is perfect for use as a topping for baked potatoes, tacos and soups,” Alaynah Tombridge Manager Corporate Affairs at Chobani tells PackagingInsights. “Savor can also be added to sauces, dressings, and marinades for a creamy texture and satisfying taste. It can also be used to garnish vegetables and savory pancakes or crepes.”

“Chobani Savor is available in a 14-ounce, resealable pouch with 50 percent fewer calories, 75 percent less fat, and twice the protein than the equivalent amount of sour cream. It is made with only natural, non-GMO ingredients and fresh milk from cows not treated with rBST.”

“It also contains no artificial flavors, sweeteners, preservatives, and is gluten-free. Chobani Savor will retail for a MSRP of US$2.99,” he adds.

According to Leland Maschmeyer, the brand’s CCO, the idea for Chobani Savor came from listening to the consumers’ wishes and translating those needs during the product development process.

“We knew there was a desire to use the product beyond just a Spoonable, breakfast occasion, he says.” Yogurt globally is a culinary staple. It’s part of so many different recipes and is used in so many different ways throughout the day. I think a lot of people in the United States were starting to learn about the versatility of yogurt and its nutritional benefits.”

In order to ensure a successful venture outside the dairy aisle, a new packaging had to be created to ensure that the consumers would readily create an association with a savory condiment. Chobani tested a variety of squeezable tubes in the development phase and finally settled on a recloseable top-down pouch for dispensing Chobani Savor.

Keeping in line with the brand’s core principles - natural, craft-oriented and simple - the design for the packaging is minimalistic. It features only the essential information such as the product brand and flavor, the product denomination (Squeezable Greek Yogurt) and the relevant nutritional claims.
