Constar International Inc., a leading producer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic containers, announced today their successful collaboration with Mott's to redesign the ReaLemon and ReaLime juices from concentrate bottles. ReaLemon is the category leader with 48% of the market. The new 15 oz. and 32 oz. family of PET packages includes a distinctive lemon/lime shape in the neck that immediately identifies the product with the brand. The unique and innovative design combines an asymmetric lemon shape in the neck area with an oriented shrink label and stippling on the bottle to create a dramatic and realistic looking lemon (or lime) visual. “It is almost as if you are pouring the juice right through a lemon, captured in the neck of the bottle,” Said Ilene Bergenfeld, ReaLemon Brand Manager for Mott's. “This new look will enhance shelf impact and reinforce our brand leadership.” Bill Eaton, Packaging Manager, Juices and Ingredients for Mott's and the project manager, called the design a win/win. “We set out to redesign the ReaLemon packaging to fit our manufacturing standard and take cost out of the package. Constar was able to do both as well as give us an exciting new family look.” Under their supply partnership, Constar provides design and development services and all the bottle preforms. Mott's blows containers, on line, in their own production facilities. “This ReaLemon design illustrates our innovative design capability and our ability to develop a package from industrial rendering through modeling, performance analysis and final product,” adds Don Deubel, Vice President, Research and Development for Constar. “This integrated process produces an optimized container- lighter weight and better performance- without sacrificing imagination, and usually the first time.” Mott's began national distribution of the new ReaLemon and ReaLime family design in April 2003.
