Common packaging for cookie dough includes chubs, tubs and wrapped trays. Now all these have to make way in grocer’s refrigerated cases for Crazy About Cookies’ fun stand-up pouches. In a product category where film-wrapped trays and chub packs dominate the day, pouches of Crazy About Cookies are sure to stand out.
As the Crazy About Cookies brand is stepping into retail, expanding from its foodservice and fundraising channels, it has chosen resealable stand-up pouches as its packaging format. According to Joe Giildenzopf, Pine Valley Foods’ owner, the company has an all-natural product in an interesting packaging. He added that apart from being extremely kid-friendly, this packaging supports a cause dear to people’s hearts. He was indicating the company’s chequered history of providing cookie dough for foodservice markets and fundraising. He said it made sense to take the retail route for bringing this product to the masses.
Crazy About Cookies’ Entry into the Retail World
The Crazy About Cookies’ stand-up pouches display bold and colourful images of cookie-crazy children. A pouch with a net weight of 1 pound contains sufficient scoopable cookie dough to create 16 one-ounce cookies. The pouches are available in seven varieties of cookies. The barrier pouches come equipped with a resealable zipper that helps retain freshness between servings. They have a refrigerated shelf life of 60 days from the date of manufacture, which is shown via their “use by” coding. These pouches also have a "clean" and stylish all-natural-ingredients tag.
Joseph Ward was hired as a consultant to lead Crazy About Cookies’ entry into the retail world. He is the executive director of Ward Strategies, LLC. His company specializes in helping small companies with turnaround and start-up applications. That Ward knows packaging was also a deciding factor in hiring him.
In his support to the stand-up pouches, Ward said that he had always been a strong advocate of novel, exciting and disruptive packaging. He added further that the level of graphics on these pouches was exciting. He also said that this resealable, gusseted pouch packaging was exclusive in the category. The packaging design of the pouches was planned by William Fox Munroe, Reading, PA.
The design aimed to balance two things, namely the product and the face that use photo-quality printing. Thanks to the high resolution cookie images, consumers can have a fair idea about what the cookies would look like when baked. Despite this being a standard approach, it’s the kids-forward packaging design that makes these stand-up pouches unique.

With extremely attractive packaging depicting impactful faces of children, who have a hometown and a name identified on the package, these pouches are sure to entice customers to take notice. Apart from getting their attention, the new packaging will also make them smile and feel good. All these may impact their buying decisions favourably.
