CROWN Speciality Packaging Receives Nestlé UK "Packaging Supplier Performance 2007" Award
Company's Sustainability Initiative Plays Important Role in Nestlé's Business Success.
Nestlé UK has awarded CROWN Speciality Packaging, a business unit of Crown Holdings, Inc. (Crown), twith its "Packaging Supplier Performance 2007" award in recognition of the successful and long-term business relationship shared by the companies. CROWN Speciality Packaging won the award based on its high marks in key areas of Nestlé's suppliers' performance scoring system, which covers product delivery, quality, innovation and sustainability performance.
"CROWN Speciality Packaging aims to meet and exceed Nestlé's expectations in all production areas, including design, sustainability and manufacturing," says Andrew Saunders, Account Manager, CROWN Speciality Packaging. "This award recognizes our performance and demonstrates that we are certainly on the right path in fulfilling our partner's needs."
Crown's ongoing effort to improve sustainability was a key element in receiving this award. One of Crown's most important achievements in 2007 was reducing the metal thickness of both the lid and end of the well known 1.2 kg containers for Nestlé UK's "Quality Street" chocolate range. This change resulted in manufacturing savings of over 200 tons of steel. In addition, Crown helped Nestlé achieve significant energy savings by increasing the number of tins on each pallet for transportation. This led to reducing the number of vehicles needed to deliver the annual volume of metal containers.
"We have an excellent working relationship with CROWN Speciality Packaging across all our business functions including Quality, New Product Development, Logistics, Marketing and Business Services," says Phil Cheeseman, Purchasing Category Specialist, Glass, Plastic and Tin, at Nestlé UK. "Crown also played a very important role in developing our Halifax factory, where the products are packaged."
Halifax is Nestlé's global center for manufacturing and packaging the "Quality Street" chocolate range and the UK hub for "Easter Eggs."
