A SHRINK labelling system installed at Robinson Plastic Packaging, of Nottingham, is providing blue-chip customer Cadbury with a new packaging solution for its Mini Eggs brand. The system, supplied by Graham Labelling Systems, of Brightlingsea, is adding the finish to tubes eventually filled with 45g of chocolate eggs. Featuring an integral flip-top and a separate base plug that is inserted after filling, the tubes are moulded by Robinson using a special colourant to achieve the familiar Cadbury purple colour. Operating at speeds up to 250 tubes/minute, the Graham RF120 machine cuts and applies a full body decorative and tamper-evident sleeve via a puck-based conveyor, which holds the tube upright and shuts tight the lid against a top-hold unit. As well as providing the stability required for accurate sleeving, the pucks also aid even sleeve shrinkage by rotating the tube through the heat tunnel. In addition, the sleeve has an easy-open tear off strip which is created using horizontal and vertical perforators on the machine.
