Stirring Innovation
Nestlé has forsaken its age-old use of cartons for Coffee-mate Liquid creamer in exchange for stylish new contoured bottles with contemporary graphics. Proprietary polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles in 16- and 32-fl-oz capacities are contoured with a pinched-in neck and incorporate a set of indented rings around their lower body.
Evocative of a large dollop of cream, the red-plastic cap topping the bottle is a design first. Forming almost a dome over the bottle, the proprietary, patent-pending cap curves in on the middle of one side, allowing the user to place a thumb on the curved cap surface and flick open the closure lid. Underneath, a tear-shaped opening allows for no-drip pouring. To reseal, users push on the back of the lid, closing the top with an audible “click.” A tabbed foil seal over the bottle opening allows for tamper-evidence. Integral to the smooth, sleek appearance of the new packaging is its glossy, gravure-printed shrink-sleeve label. Chosen for its environmentally friendly qualities and high-shrink capabilities, the 50-micron PETG full-body label fits snugly around the bottle’s contours without wrinkling.
