Milliken unveils clarifying technology for PP food-grade packaging
Key takeaways
- Milliken introduces Millad ClearX 9000, a clarifying agent for PP that delivers ultra-clear transparency with lower additive loading.
- The technology enhances processing compatibility and eliminates the need for segregated virgin and PCR resin streams.
- Millad ClearX 9000 enables faster changeovers, less waste, and greater formulation flexibility for producers.
Milliken & Company has launched Millad ClearX 9000, a next-generation clarifying technology for PP designed to deliver ultra-clear transparency at reduced additive loading levels. The solution can be used for food packaging, home storage, and medical applications.
Building on the Millad platform, Millad ClearX 9000 provides manufacturers with an advanced solution that lowers extraction and migration rates in PP packaging and parts, which is said to be critical for food-contact and medical applications.
The technology is said to improve processing compatibility and to eliminate the need for segregated virgin and PCR resin streams, enabling greater composition flexibility.
Wim Van De Velde, senior vice president and managing director of Milliken’s plastic additives business, says: “Millad ClearX 9000 is a breakthrough for the PP industry, delivering ultra-clear transparency with less clarifying additive and greater flexibility for our customers. This launch reflects Milliken’s ongoing commitment to advancing material science and helping our partners meet evolving market demands.”
Advanced technology
Millad ClearX 9000 has broad US Food and Drug Administration conditions of use approval (A-J), allowing its use in food-contact applications.
By enhancing additive compatibility, the company says the technology helps resin producers and converters achieve less downtime, less waste, and quicker changeovers, delivering measurable improvements in manufacturing efficiency.
The technology also enables improved compatibility with other Millad clarifying agents, giving producers the flexibility to optimize formulations for virgin and PCR PP.
Bhavesh Gandhi, global product line manager of Milliken’s plastic additives business, comments: “Our team developed Millad ClearX 9000 to address the growing need for clarity and efficiency in polypropylene applications. By reducing additive loading and migration rates, we’re helping our customers create products that are not only visually appealing but also meet the highest standards for food and medical use.”
Milliken has been driving innovation in PP. In collaboration with PureCycle Technologies, the company developed a “fully environmentally sustainable” concentrate for PP made from recycled resin. Through its additives, Milliken provides support in reinvigorating recycled PP to create circularity in the new material.
