The lengthy search for a carton with a useful “spout” can clearly be seen at the patent office where there are literally 100’s of hopeful options, none of which really address the issue satisfactorily.
The solutions to date, which are in the marketplace involve:
- A hole the size of an oversize 10p coin which is more of a concession rather than a solution
- A plastic or metal spout which again are too small to be an adequate solution to anything except possibly the soap powder market, and frankly they are not eco friendly
These solutions have been driven by the carton companies not thinking outside the box so to speak. The real need is for a spout with an adequate flow rate – with this in mind MM Sampling & Packaging has developed the EzySpout Carton. This carton features a full spine width opening, the spout gizmo is cleverly made out of board thus ensuring efficient flow rate and ensures the total carton is recyclable. The depth of the opening can be created to any size – the only restriction is that it must be in the void above the contents.
The perforated spout area is secured by a two part label to give tamper evident confidence to the consumer. Once the tamper evident portion is removed the remaining tab opens up the spout for immediate use. It is ideal for bagless cereals or other dry goods with a pouring capability.
