Rexam Plastic Containers Yate has been working on a number of concepts to improve both the functionality of its packaging and reduce costs for its customers. The company has made a significant breakthrough with the launch of its REXsorb™ trays, which have already been adopted by a leading UK poultry packer. Rexam’s REXsorb™ trays, made of 100% polypropylene, are designed to retain excess moisture without the need for additional padding, thus reducing packaging costs significantly. A spokesman said “There are also micro-biological advantages as padding has been viewed as encouraging bacterial growth and these new trays offer the industry an alternative.” The new design is initially being rolled out across Rexam’s poultry tray range, where the use of an absorbent pad is widespread, however the design is suitable for many tray types where excess moisture from food may be a problem. The REXsorb™ trays are currently patent pending. Rexam Plastic Containers is a leading producer of plastic food trays and containers to ambient, fresh and chilled food markets. Together with dedicated staff at its design centres and recent NPD investments made, Rexam believes it can continue to offer customers and consumers improved packaging solutions.
