Nampak scoops top prize at the Sustainable City Awards
Nampak Plastics, the UK’s leading producer of plastic milk bottles excelled at The Sustainable City Awards, winning the overall Sir Peter Parker Award for sustainable business leadership. Nampak’s multi-award winning Infini bottle was also highly commended in the Responsible Waste Management category.

The Sustainable City Awards are the UK's leading green business awards scheme, attracting applications from more than 250 businesses from across the UK. The awards, established by the City of London Corporation, represent the three pillars of sustainable development; the economy, society and the environment. This year the Sustainable City Awards have merged with the prestigious BCE Awards, the UK's oldest environmental award schemes in the UK.
Through winning the Sir Peter Parker Award, as well as the Infini bottle being recognised for its ‘green’ credentials and reduced carbon footprint, it has triumphed over 60 other shortlisted competitors, including Wahaca restaurants and HSBC.
Other successes to date have seen Infini claim a number of industry awards, including some on a global scale, with a silver prize for sustainability at the coveted WorldStar Awards, and winning Green Product of the Year at the British Engineering Excellence Awards in 2013.
In the last 12 months alone, Nampak has achieved two world records with their Infini bottle. The company trialled, tested and supplied the first four-pint milk bottle containing up to 30% rHDPE, double that of any other milk bottle on the market. This breakthrough came shortly after Nampak created a four-pint Infini bottle weighing only 32g, representing a 20% material saving on the standard version found in supermarkets today. This has saved 34,000 tonnes of carbon each year, achieved ‘zero waste to landfill’ status and reduced the overall amount of carbon it uses by 16%, equivalent to taking 12,000 cars off the road.

Judges from the Environment judging panel commented “The Infini bottle is a product designed with circular economy thinking at its heart. A circular economy requires businesses to think differently about the way they make, sell, re-use and recycle and, in turn, creates opportunities for innovation, for creative thinking, and for challenging conventional business models. Nampak is a great example of a business taking advantage of precisely these opportunities, a business very much living up to the ethos of Sir Peter Parker.”
Now, more than 500 million Infini bottles have been sold, stocked in retailers including Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons.
