Pack Expo 2023: HexcelPack to present new paper-based cushioning packs for cost and waste reduction
30 Aug 2023 --- Cushioning solutions developer HexcelPack will showcase its new packaging portfolio at Pack Expo in Las Vegas, US, September 11-13. Among the introductions will be a bladeless automatic dispensing solution for void fill, a wide-width version of the company’s standard HexcelWrap and cushioning pads.
Ahead of the event, we speak to David Goodrich, managing member of HexcelPack, who tells us that global demand for paper cushioning is “exploding” – especially for solutions that outperform plastic alternatives for cushioning and ease of use. “Our customer base is growing worldwide, and we sell to many leading brands,” he says.
HexcelPack develops paper-based cushioning solutions designed to replace bubble packaging and other plastic or foam-based protective materials. Its portfolio provides sustainable, superior product protection for retail packages, corrugated shippers, envelopes and other containers.
Paper-based cushioning
Suitable for e-commerce, HexcelWrap is a next-generation slit sheet material that utilizes a special paper called UltraStretch. “An easy-to-integrate dispenser eliminates the need for costly powered equipment and takes minimal effort to dispense,” explains Goodrich.
HexcelPack’s additional solutions include those for void-fill (Hexafil), padded mailers (Hexcel’ope) and Pallet Wrap (HexcelStretch).
Goodrich notes that the company’s AutoFil is a fully automatic dispensing solution for its HexaFil void fill. The machine uses a novel bladeless cutting technique to dispense the sustainable void-fill material into corrugated shippers up to three times faster than alternative methods.
Furthermore, Wide Wrap is a wider version of the company’s original HexcelWrap cushioning paper. The solution allows easier wrapping of larger items. Wide Wrap can be dispensed via a tabletop brush dispenser or an orbital wrapper for protecting larger and heavier items.
Eliminating non-recyclable packs
Hexcel Pads are similar to the company’s Hexcel’Ope mailer and offer superior protection attributes without the interior opening. Hexcel Pads include a double-layer option for protection against crushing.
Goodrich observes that the packaging sector continues to trend toward sustainable single-use packaging, “which aligns well with HexcelPack since every solution we provide falls into this category.”
“At Pack Expo, we expect to see an increasing number of companies discuss progress toward the goal of all but eliminating non-recyclable plastic packaging, with paper-based products a key aspect of this overarching strategy.”
