H.R. Manager, Printpack Inc., Jeremy VanCamp, said “I’m looking forward to all of the enthusiasm and energy people are bringing to the project. And starting something fresh in a building that’s not 80 something years old.”
Some of the biggest companies in the world use Printpack, like Frito Lay and Hershey’s Chocolate.
Earlier the company announced plans to expand to a larger plant and add dozens of more jobs to the community.
Rhinelander City Administrator, BlaineOborn, said “By having Printpack in this area there will be other businesses that may locate here that work within. And we may be able to get some economic development because of their facility being located here.”
The new $72 million facility will be built off Highway 17 near Edwards Street Avenue. That area falls in the town of Pelican but the city of Rhinelander will be annexing the property in the next few weeks.
“For us to get and do a tax except financing district which will provide some major incentives for the water and sewer and the road work that needs to be done for that facility,” Oborn said.
Printpack purchased the land for $124,900. The building will be roughly 174,00 square feet.
“I think everyone is ecstatic. This is about three miles from our current location so it’s not very far away. It’s obviously a beautiful location. Not near a residential area like in town. It offers us a lot of room for expansion," VanCamp said.
It will take about 10 to 12 months to complete the new plant.
Printpack said they’re eager to break ground and hope to begin building by sometime next year. But there are still a few more details to be worked out before the sale is finalized. On July 9th at 6 p.m., City Hall administrators and Printpack will be meeting to discuss those details.
That meeting will be open and anyone is invited to attend.
