ProAmpac equips nutrition producer with recyclable paper sachets for powered meal shakes
10 Aug 2022 --- Flexible packaging supplier ProAmpac has joined forces with wholefood nutrition producer Purition to introduce ProActive Recyclable paper sachets for powered meal shakes. This fully recyclable high-barrier paper sachet replaces Purition’s original multilayer non-recyclable packaging.
The ProActive Recyclable paper sachets are easily recyclable in paper streams.
“Purition engaged with ProAmpac’s material science experts to create a recyclable packaging solution for its nutritional powders. This partnership led to the launch of ProActive Recyclable paper sachet and is further proof that collaborative innovation brings pioneering sustainable paper packaging to market,” says Adam Grose, chief commercial officer at ProAmpac.
Taking into consideration that a mere 28% of global consumers are willing to sacrifice product protection for a more environmentally sustainable packaging design, according to Innova Market Insights, Purition and ProAmpac improved the ProActive Recyclable paper sachet’s sustainability features by reducing the amount of material used overall without compromising product protective attributes.
“This paper-based technology offers the high oxygen and moisture barrier needed for dry powder protection. The product also has optimum stiffness for shelf appearance and consumer handling,” states Lynsey Maddison, senior product development manager at ProAmpac Europe.
Purition’s ProActive Recyclable paper sachets are digitally printed by ProAmpac Ultimate Digital, allowing the company to adapt to the new structure with minimum visual changes.
Maddison elaborates on the shift and explains that “all items are run as a composite and the high-quality print maintains Purition’s minimalist earth tone pallet, ensuring clear and crisp labeling for consumers.”
ProAmpac in the paper packaging spotlight
ProAmpac recently acquired Specialty Packaging, a US-based specialty paper, film and foil packaging producer for the fast food and food services industries. The move deepened the flexible packaging and material science leader’s presence in the southwestern US.
Based in Texas, US, Specialty Packaging is a leading provider of paper, film, foil bags, sandwich wraps, basket liners and other custom products for longtime blue-chip fast food and food service brands. The company produces custom and stock paper, film and foil products from its state-of-the-art 100,000 square-foot facility.
With this acquisition, ProAmpac broadened its portfolio of highly-customized, recyclable food packaging solutions and increases its paper bag converting capacity.
Furthermore, the supplier has launched high-performance retort pouches containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) material in response to increasing market demand. The ProActive PCR Retort pouches are EU- and FDA-compliant for food contact in retort applications and suitable for human and pet foods.
The pouches offer 30% PCR content or more by weight, reducing the use of virgin resins in the packaging. These pouches also comply with the recently enforced UK Plastic Packaging Tax.
