Rexam Creates Packs for Spanish Fish Dishes

3 Nov 2009 --- Spanish food company Conservas Garavilla has commissioned Rexam to create new plastic containers for its Isabel fish range.
The UK packaging firm has produced two sizes of high-barrier plastic bowls – 83mm and 99mm diameter – using its Rotary ThermoForming technology for a range of Natur Fresh fish salads and ready meals.
Both sizes of container are decorated with high-gloss shrink-sleeves, giving the packaging vibrant shelf-appeal; while the larger sized bowl also features an in-mould labelled lid with in-built fork for eating the contents.
Jorge Arrizabalaga, Isabel marketing director, said the high-barrier bowls provided an exciting modern format for its products.
"As the leading producer of prepared fish salads in Spain, we need to ensure we keep ahead of the competition," he said.
"We wanted new packaging that we could run on our existing equipment with minimal capital investment, but that would create real differentiation in the marketplace."
The containers are formed in the melt-phase of the production process, meaning there is no in-built stress, giving them superior retort and barrier performance.
The bowls are sealed with easy-open and easy-peel metal ends on an existing can-filling line and are processed through a conventional retort.
