SIG aseptic cartons boost Thai start-ups’ organic soymilk shelf-life and export capabilities
21 Jan 2020 --- Aseptic packaging provider SIG is further establishing its global reach through international collaborations. In recent moves, the company has teamed up with Thailand-based start-up Tofusan to launch the country’s first organic ultra-high temperature (UHT) soy milk in aseptic carton packs. The collaboration will boost the products’ storage life and facilitate its transportation, without the need for refrigeration or preservatives. On the other side of the Pacific, Brazilian dairy producer Languiru Cooperative (Languiru) has commissioned a third filling line from SIG’s connective packaging. The move equips Languiru’s milk portfolio with unique QR codes securing end-to-end traceability for consumers.
Seeking a convenient and modern, yet sustainable packaging solution for its cartons, Tofusan has opted for SIG’s combiblocMini aseptic carton packs and flexible filling technology for its first organic UHT soymilk range. This packaging choice inhibits light and air exposure.

Both the unique product and its packaging open up new market opportunities domestically and overseas. Appealing to busy, health-conscious Millennials, SIG’s lightweight and durable carton packs have trendy designs that immediately catch the eye of the consumer. Tofusan calls SIG’s packaging solution a “perfect match” for its natural premium soymilk, made only from organic soybeans certified by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and organic sugar.

Connective packaging
SIG is also is providing, Brazil-based Languiru with connective packaging that boosts traceability. The Brazilian company commissioned an additional filling line from SIG which features a unique QR code on each milk package.
Over 12,000 codes are generated every hour and automatically connected to the respective product data. Since 2017, Brazilian consumers of five different Languiru milk products can access quality data, brand information and interactive quizzes directly on their smartphones by scanning a unique on-pack QR code. Languiru achieved a 6 percent spike in milk sales due to a promotion pilot at the time.
QR codes help connect consumers with their producuts.This QR code system was unprecedented in the food industry when it launched and proved SIG’s early commitment to the connected packaging trend. Revealing that just 7 percent of Brazilian consumers scanning QR codes several times a week, SIG conducted almost 3,000 interviews last September to better understand how consumers interact with QR codes.

SIG understood our demands and developed a tailor-made solution for Languiru that demonstrates quality and therefore adds value to our brand,” highlights Languiru’s Cooperative President, Dirceu Bayer.
Traceability is also a key trend within the packaging industry. Last August, Languiru launched a new premium milk called Origem. With SIG’s Connected Pack technology, consumers can obtain information about the milk and the farm where it was produced, as well as information from producers, time of collection and satellite images of the farms.
Since implementing SIG’s Connected Pack solutions, Languiru says it has become one of the leading market players in the southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul.
