SIG launches digital printing for aseptic cartons tailored to consumer demands
24 Apr 2023 --- SIG is introducing SIG Digital Printing for aseptic carton packs produced in Europe. The printing solution offers full-color digital printing without needing cylinders or printing forms for flexibility and agility to meet specific customer demands.
Market requirements in the F&B industry have changed significantly in recent years, and flexibility and fast reaction times are crucial for manufacturers in different categories to be successful with their products, asserts SIG.
These categories include demand for packaging, where life cycles of designs are becoming shorter and the need for agility due to smaller lot sizes and promotions are increasing. This is due to frequent product launches, portfolio extensions and increasingly creative marketing campaigns to keep one step ahead.
SIG has invested in this new digital printing technology to complement its existing “highly” efficient and high-quality rotogravure printing. SIG Digital Printing investment includes a RotaJET 168 Digital Printing Machine built by Koenig & Bauer. Commercial production on the industrial digital printing machine is planned for the second half of this year at SIG’s production facility in Linnich, Germany.
SIG Digital Printing offers F&B customers the opportunity to make dynamic design changes quickly and easily, it says. F&B flexibility
Holger Schmidt, head of product management technology at SIG says: “Small-scale production will make it possible for our customers to be creative with design changes and to test out product ideas in the market with reduced risks. Speed, flexibility and precise product design are decisive factors for success. This is exactly what we offer with our digital printing solutions.”
Ideally suited to stock keeping units with lower order quantities, flexible and futureproof SIG Digital Printing offers F&B customers the opportunity to make dynamic design changes quickly and easily to deal with frequent modifications and updates. This ensures stand out design on shelf, keeping brands in season and maximizing regular product promotion activity, says the company.
Christoph Müller, CEO segment digital & webfed and member of the executive board Koenig & Bauer adds: “Like SIG, we always have the requirements of tomorrow in mind so we can shape the future alongside our customers.”
“It’s exciting to see SIG Digital Printing for aseptic carton packs come to fruition and how this new technology will bring a valuable addition to their printing portfolio by providing a streamlined design editing option, and the possibility of speeding up their design-to-print process.”
SIG in the news
Meanwhile, SIG partnered with food-tech company Notco to expand its product portfolio with renewable aseptic carton packaging for two new product launches – NotCreme and NotMilk High Protein.
“With our agile and flexible filling system, we can offer high flexibility combined with speed. Our customers can respond efficiently to any trends that are shaping the market,” said Renata Kasahara, head of marketing America South at SIG.
Earlier this month, SIG opened its second production plant in Palghar, India. The plant specializes in producing SIG’s bag-in-box and spouted pouch packaging, previously marketed under Scholle IPN and Bossar.
The new production plant, located 90 km north of Mumbai, is near the packaging solutions provider’s first plant in Palghar, which houses production assets used to manufacture components and finished packaging.
