Eurial Restauration, a customer of DS Smith, has decided to remove plastic from the packaging of their frozen cheese ingredients. As part of establishing their position as a leader in individually quick frozen products within the restaurant and catering sector, Eurial Restauration (brands Soignon, Maestrella, Ligueil) considers the container to be just as important as the contents. The cooperative group is therefore renewing the packaging for their goat's or cow's milk cheese ingredients. They have decided to replace plastic trays with microfluted cardboard packaging (blank on the contact side) manufactured by DS Smith.
Eurial has found that this cardboard solution has a lot of advantages over their previous system:
- easier opening and closing,
- improved grip,
- they are stackable,
- resistance to vertical compression and a reduction in breakages,
- inviolability thanks to the gluing of the flaps
- a more important communication surface gives the product more value
The environmental advantages of cardboard pacakaging are equally very important to the customer:
- the use of a material that comes from a renewable source,
- the inclusion of 5 to 10% of recycled fibres in the external layers,
- the use of water-based inks,
- a reduction in waste volumes
- a well established recycling system.
DS Smith has implemented all its expertise in designing packaging suitable for contact with food, in order to present a solution that combines practicality with ecological and economic performance.
