At the latest edition of the Pro Carton/ECMA Award, Europe’s most important award for packaging made of carton board, the jury selected the la Morella nuts ‘Nut Box’ as the best confectionery packaging.
At the latest edition of the Pro Carton/ECMA Award, Europe’s most important award for packaging made of carton board, the jury selected the la Morella nuts ‘Nut Box’ as the best confectionery packaging. The Nut Box was created by Du Caju Printing N.V. on the request of Barry Callebaut, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality cocoa and chocolate products, and Owner Company of la Morella nuts based in Reus, Spain. “The design of the embossing cleverly reflects the texture of the chocolate and nut confectionery inside”, the jury stated.
The packaging is part of a range of communication measures designed to reflect the traditional craftsmanship at la Morella nuts. “The Nut Box was based on a brochure design our agency Berlin created on our request”, explains Sofie De Lathouwer, Marketing Director Western Europe at Barry Callebaut. “We wanted the brochure and the packaging to project in an unambiguous way that la Morella nuts is a premium brand which offers quality of the highest range.”
“This competition emphasizes the innovative and creative possibilities of cardboard packaging and puts the craftsmanship of the packaging industry in the spotlight. We wanted the la Morellea nut box to reflect the superior quality of the chocolate nutty bars it contains”, explains Koen Penne at Du Caju Printing. “Within the la Morella nut bars the best of both worlds is combined: superior chocolate bars with perfect crunchy nuts. The jury appreciated that the design of the embossing reflects the texture of the chocolate and nut confectionery inside.”
“Emotions other than simply vision are necessary to make a pack truly appealing and feel or touch is one that is being increasingly used to ensure consumer appeal. “Hand-painted figures depicting each phase of production are deeply embossed in the black carton board. Details in foil printing create depth and contrast. The result is a sophisticated carton which lets the product speak for itself, while at the same time telling the story of natural origins and perfect craftsmanship”, the jury added to their evaluation.
The annual Pro Carton/ECMA Awards for outstanding carton packaging on the markets have been given for seventeen years now and are among the most coveted awards in their category.
