Syntegon’s next-gen flow wrapper Pack 202 hits North American market
19 Aug 2020 --- Syntegon has introduced its next generation of heat sealing flow wrappers called Pack 202 to the North American market. Building on its predecessor Pack 201, the new machine is a fully automated horizontal flow wrapping machine for low to medium speeds. Pack 202 is marketed as suitable for packaging bars, bakery products, cookies and crackers, as well as non-food applications. It borrows technologies from its sister machine Pack 403 that were integrated within the Pack 403 machine last year. These include an easily removable discharge belt, upgrades to the cross-seal and fin seal units, and a “highly intuitive,” user-centered design.
The Pack 202 is available globally, but North America is the largest market, Kelly Meer, Product Manager at Syntegon Packaging Technology, tells PackagingInsights. He highlights that the Pack 202 has not launched yet in India and Southeast Asia, but will in 2021.
“The Pack 202 replaces our Pack 201 in most markets, apart from India. Last year, we launched the Pack 403 for medium to high-speed applications. When it came to developing a new flow wrapper for low to medium speeds, we applied some of the technical innovations of the Pack 403 to the Pack 202. It stands out for its user-friendly instructions directly on the machine in the form of decals, engravings and numbered film rollers. Furthermore, it improves the sealing capability of the flow wrapper,” Meer details.
Ideal for multi-product applications, the Pack 202 can wrap individual or grouped products including bakery goods, bars, fresh and frozen products, confectionery, snacks, medical products, prepared foods, household goods and many other food and non-food items. It’s designed to produce up to 300 packs per minute at a film speed of 50 meters. Supported pack styles include pillow, gusseted and easy-to-open packs.
In contrast to its predecessor, Syntegon has now equipped the Pack 202 in North America with a standard 450 mm dual backstand. Depending on brand owners’ needs, a 650 mm single backstand is also available. “What’s more, the standard Pack 202 version for the North American market now features Rockwell controls and HMI 4.0., which is a significant benefit for brand owners,” says Meer. Upon request, advanced Rockwell controls can also be installed.
Syntegon strives for food and pharma
In Syntegon’s latest developments, the company formerly known as Bosch Packaging Technology partnered with Taghleef Industries and Polifilm to develop an aroma-proof polypropylene (PP) monomaterial solution for coffee packaging. Active in the pharmaceutical packaging sector as well as food packaging, Syntegon joined the OPEN-SCS Group, whose joint goals include the fight against pharmaceutical counterfeiting.
In May, PackagingInsights covered Syntegon’s virtual event that substituted for the postponed interpack trade show. The Germany-headquartered company showcased its intelligent and environmental sustainability-enhancing technologies for the food and pharmaceutical industries online.
