Twinings Installs Chronos Richardson Kit

06/06/08 Twinings is bagging speciality teas at its Andover factory using weighing and packaging equipment installed by Chronos Richardson.
The firm took advantage of the Easter shutdown to install the vibratory fed E55 bagging weigher, which discharges the weighed and graded tea leaves into plastic lined cardboard boxes that are placed manually at the filling position.
The boxes are pre-assembled before the filling station and have been designed to protect the leaves of the highly scented teas and to eliminate moisture during storage.
Chronos Richardson's project leader Steve Allman said: "The E55's flat tray feeder is easy to clean, ensuring that any scented oils on the leaves can easily be wiped away."
The E55 has been installed onto a bespoke-designed support framework and is controlled by a SpeedAC NXT weighing controller. Once filled, the cases are moved away from the filling area via an integrated box liner sealer and conveyor system.
"Twinings is bagging weights from 12.5 to 45kg and the boxes are then shipped to various countries worldwide to be repacked into specific bags or cartons for local markets," said Allman.
The E55 replaced older equipment which had started to become inaccurate.
