Weekly Roundup: Micvac supports Swedish food waste program, Amcor’s recycle-ready solution gains APR approval
28 Aug 2020 --- In packaging news this week, Micvac offered its support to the Swedish Environmental Research Institute’s (IVL) collaborative program to reduce food waste. The program aims to unite the value chain to identify food waste causes and share the solutions. Also, the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) notified Amcor that the AmPrima PE Plus recycle-ready solution with heat-resistance has met its responsible innovation requirements. SIG won the business of Omani Mazoon Dairy, the largest integrated dairy company in the Sultanate of Oman.
In brief: Sustainability action
Micvac took up the role of supporter for IVL’s cooperation program to reduce food waste. The cooperation is called Samarbete för minskat matsvinn (Cooperation to Reduce Food Waste) and takes the form of an agreement, whereby players in the food industry work together to identify where food waste arises, and what the causes are. The problems can then be remedied, and the solution shared with others. Micvac hopes that the cooperation can become a forum, bringing players along the entire food chain together to discuss and implement specific, industry-wide projects that can speed up the reduction of food waste.
APR notified Amcor that the AmPrima PE Plus recycle-ready solution with heat-resistance has met APR’s responsible innovation requirements for molded parts and films over three mils in thickness. Amcor’s AmPrima recycle-ready solutions offer customers a more sustainable choice for their flexible packaging needs without compromising performance. AmPrima PE Plus with heat resistance was developed to meet more critical requirements for demanding applications such as flow-wraps, pouches with spouts, lidding and more.
