10 Mar 2025 | Schur Star Systems

Schur Star Systems exhibited its pouch and bag filling line at Packaging Innovations 2025, UK. We discuss the pouches’ materials and sector applications with Michael Kitchen, area sales manager UK. We also talk about current consumer demands Kitchen observes in the industry.

This is Packaging Insights reporting from Packaging Innovations 2025 in the UK.

I'm at the Surestar Systems booth with Michael Kitchen, the area sales manager.

Hello, Michael.

Michael, what can you tell us about the bag filling solution you're exhibiting here at Packaging Innovation?

So we're exhibiting this year our our kind of pouch and bag filling solution which we believe, and many of our customers who switch believe is the most versatile and reliable pouch filling machine on the market.

And what industries are you catering to and where do you see the largest demands for pouch filling solutions at the moment?

OK, so we're in a range of vertical industries.

It's very hard to name one that we aren't in.

Food and drink, obviously, medical, we do all sorts of nutrition, the toy market, DIY, you name it, we're kind of in it really.

Our biggest market obviously is food and drink, but yeah, there isn't a market really that we aren't in.

Are there any particular challenges across industries, for example, when comparing F&B and medical pouch filling?

I guess you've got the compliance issues in medical, but you have many of those in food and bev as.

So you know the challenges are, I guess, making sure that you've got the right material for the right solution, but we have a great technical team behind us that specifies all of that.

And we work closely with the customers to give them what they, what they need.

Alright, brilliant.

Can you tell us how your solutions are addressing the UK's incoming EPR regulation?

Yeah, so we have a, we have a full compliance team back at back at our site in Flensburgh where the bags are manufactured.

They're ahead of any changes in regulations and kind of act on that straight away.

What we're also looking at is we're extending our range of environmentally friendly products and recyclable products to kind of address that ourselves as.

Mhm.

And now Michael, what issues R&D focus for this year and beyond?

So we're continually from an R&D point of view, we continue to look at more and more sustainable materials, sustainable zippers, sustainable closures and ceilings.

We're also looking at kind of continual R&D on our machinery, what other equipment we can integrate to give a total solution.

So it's a focus on on the machinery, but also on the consumables, the bags themselves.

Mhm.

And is there anything else you'd like to highlight?

No, I think, you know, just to close, come and have a look at the er the most reliable and versatile bag filling machine on the market.

Thanks for speaking to Packaging Insights.

Thanks a lot.
