ProSweets Cologne 2025: Syntegon presents SVX Series vertical packaging machine

At ProSweets Cologne 2025, Syntegon showcases its SVX Series vertical packaging machine for high-output confectionery packaging performance. At the trade show, Jan Gruhn, Syntegon’s regional sales manager for Germany, tells us more about the machine, as well as how packaging companies can balance automation, sustainability, and address end customers’ loss in buying power to stay ahead of the competition.

I'm at Crosswits 2025 speaking to Jan Gruen, the regional sales manager at Sinteon in Germany.
Jan, could you tell us a bit about the pack packaging solutions you're presenting at the show this year?
Yes, it will be my pleasure.
So welcome to the booth here in Sinteon within Pro Suites.
We are very happy to have you here today with us, where we are presenting a party.
Our technology for the confectionery business, so we as a supplier are showing our next state of the art vertical packaging machine, the Type SVX, which we have launched in 2023 in May, which is raising the bar for the high output performances into confectionary packaging.
For we as Syntagon, as a partner for processing and packaging for a better life, are not only concentrating on the primary.
Packaging but also on the whole line.
So we are providing our technology from the loose product to the shelf ready presentation which contains the primary packaging whether it's vertical or horizontal, for example, for bars and chocolates, but also for cookies and crackers and especially case packing to get the patterns together for transport ready cases or shelf ready presentation.
And could you tell us more about the kind of trends that these solutions are responding to?
Yes, we see 3 major impacts that we are facing, so specifically automation.
Then we have sustainability and last but not least, there is also loss in buying power of the end customers in the market.
So automation is also referring to the required labor costs which are quite high in several countries.
So we are providing technology to make it easy for our customers to overcome.
Shortages and to liberate their resources in the production by implementing more and more automized solutions and sustainability with regards to also the new regulation of the European Union, the PR, which is raising a lot of attention in the market for customers who are Evaluating on their existing solutions whether or not they are still futureproof or if they have to react in some way, so we as a machine supplier and partner are assisting in converting existing machines to be more futureproof and to run with sustainable packaging material whether it's paper-based or it is for cyclic economy.
And the last point that I have raised with regards to loss in buying power is that we need to have smaller packages so we can keep higher outputs with smaller packages, which means that we have to raise the output per minute and this is also some target that we can achieve not only with our vertical machine SVX but also with the high speed flow wrapping machines that we are providing out of our portfolio of the former SIG.

And can you tell us a bit about how you aim to stand out from competitors on the market?
Yes, so, we are not only focusing on single applications and single machines.
What we are providing is a whole portfolio of technologies that you can connect to a seamless line.
And by seamless we are not only focusing on the technical part and connecting of different applications, but also taking into consideration the environmental influences.
So what is the market our customer is in?
What are his specific challenges, and what can we provide, whether it is Data interface with data analysis to improve on efficiency or we have specific sustainability targets where we have to assist in a specific way so we are trying to integrate all these different aspects as a partner and then to create the most suitable solution in a seamless.
And could you tell us a bit more about your environmental sustainability efforts?
Yes, so we have several parts in there as too.
So of course we have our machinery itself and the way of creating it, so the whole value chain from the raw material to the final machine.
So we improve on our energy consumption and.
Plants, but as also we are helping our customers to define something like their carbon footprint.
So we are also able that we can provide carbon footprint calculations for our machines to make it easy for the customer to evaluate on the total impact the machine is having on his specific footprint as.
In addition to that, we are also improving on the energy consumption and material usage in our machines.
For example, our colleagues from the processing company Makat Candy, they have improved on the recycling of the heat which is used in the jelly processing.
But also with the vertical packaging machines where we need less energy for higher outputs, or we can run more economic material which is thinner or it is more recyclable.
And have you faced any challenges along the way?
Yes, several challenges, but for us in Sinteon, for every challenge we also see the opportunity.
So of course we have these elimination of specific material while keeping barrier and product protection on the same level as common materials provide.
So of course we had to run a long period also of testing in cooperation with several partners where we were able to find solutions and overcome.
These challenges so that we can realize a more sustainable production without loss in efficiency or output.
Is there anything else you would like to highlight with regards to the machinery that we are presenting during the show, of course, clearly, clearly the invitation to be with us so we can show you these.
Piece of technology because this machine provides much higher outputs with the same quality in ceiling and less energy consumption, for we have implemented a totally unique and innovative jaw drive system which you which you will not find somewhere else.
