Acutia launches holistic dietary supplement for digestive health in compostable packaging
08 Nov 2023 --- Acutia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alltech, has announced the launch of Acutia Gut Health. This daily supplement combines a postbiotic, a prebiotic and L-glutamine to address digestive upset and promote gut health over time. The product is packaged in refillable jars, and capsuled in compostable pouches and envelopes made of post consumer waste.
“We are excited to introduce a supplement that supports gut health from several angles rather than targeting just one specific issue,” says Nikki Putnam Badding, managing director and chief dietitian at Acutia.
Acutia Gut Health aims to help digestive upset, support overall digestive and colon health, a healthy gut barrier and immunity, and promote a healthy bacterial balance in the digestive system.
“Not only does a healthy gut microbiota help improve digestion and nutrient absorption, but it also supports the immune system, metabolic health, brain function and mental health via the gut-brain axis,” says Putnam Badding.
Sustainable supplement packaging
Customers placing an Acutia order have the option to receive a complimentary starter kit, which includes a refillable glass storage jar and a refillable travel container, as opposed to a single-use plastic container. The purpose of the refill system is to empower customers to recycle and reduce the usage of single-use plastic.
Acutia aims to address the packaging waste issue that the supplement industry is currently grappling with.
The supplement capsules come in compostable pouches and envelopes made of post-consumer waste. The kit is packaged in a recyclable box made from partially recycled material and is certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
To further address the issue of [environmental] sustainability, Acutia has partnered with Nori to reward regenerative farming practices that sequester carbon in the soil. Through this partnership, Acutia supported the removal of more than 116 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.

Acutia’s portfolio
In addition to Acutia Gut Health, Acutia’s portfolio of supplements also features Acutia Selenium, which offers immune system support cell protection from free radicals as an antioxidant and aids healthy thyroid function.
Acutia Brain Health targets cognitive function by supporting the synthesis of neurotransmitters by combining selenium, vitamin C and plant-based omega 3 DHA while offering antioxidant benefits and essential nutrients.
