Adding “luxury” to the cannabis market: Hippo Premium Packaging
17 Sep 2018 --- Hippo Premium Packaging has unveiled its new Duallok line of certified child-resistant packaging for the cannabis industry. The designed box hopes to give the expanding cannabis businesses the means to create a stand-out brand with distinctive, luxury-quality packaging.
The package consists of a tray and sleeve that cleverly locks and provides a reliable barrier to entry by children, but is easily opened by adults. Uses include vape cartridges, disposable pens, pre-rolls, syringes, edibles and more. Duallok packaging can be tailored to fit a wide range of products in the cannabis space, the company explains.
Theory Wellness, a small batch cultivator and processor from Massachusetts and a client of Hippo Packaging will be the first to market with the new packaging system.
“Duallok is the top-of-the-line folding carton, so we held off our product launch until the system completed certification and was ready to go,” says Nick Friedman, CFO of Theory Wellness. “We think this packaging will have a big impact on our sales, and we love the fact that we are the first to market.”
Kary Radestock, Co-Founder and CEO of Hippo Premium Packaging, says that this new packaging system will help brands stand out in the increasingly competitive legal marijuana marketplace:
“Most purchasing decisions are made at the point of sale,” she explains. “Once a consumer picks up your package, they will make an immediate, sometimes subconscious decision about whether or not they will trust your brand. Accordingly, one of the greatest challenges for cannabis businesses is to package their products in a distinctive manner that generates interest and also meets child safety regulations.”
“Now we can give our clients a custom-designed Duallok packaging system that is attractive, luxurious, and affordable,” she adds. “This is the perfect packaging solution for companies that want an upscale look that attracts attention on store shelves and elevates the brand's image.”
The cannabis market
As a host of US states legalize, in some form, the use of medical marijuana, the demand for adequate packaging solutions is on the rise. Bottles and vials have largely been used but the use of new forms of protective packaging, including environmentally friendly options, is increasing.
More than one million Americans legally use medical marijuana, according to ProCon, and that number is projected to climb as more states vote to legalize medicinal cannabis. Though most patients ask for a prescription to alleviate pain, medical marijuana is also used to help ease symptoms associated with cancer, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease and HIV. It can be assumed that cannabis will continue to be used recreationally, but when it comes to its medicinal properties, many will readily choose this option.
