Ardagh and Doehler showcase premium Nitro Can beverages in customized gift box
28 Jun 2021 --- Ardagh Metal Packaging is releasing a series of premium Nitro Can drinks, developed in collaboration with natural ingredient company Doehler. Nitro Cans use a nitrogen-infused widget that can mix drinks and replicate the function of a faucet in place of refrigeration.
The series of drinks come in an “Innovation Box,” which “showcases the value-adding potential of Ardagh’s Nitro Can,” says the company.
The box is designed as a gift, containing ready-to-launch beverage concepts inviting customers to experience the “multi-sensory adventure” of Nitro-infused drinks.
In the Innovation Box are eight brand-new Nitro beverages: Cotton candy and Sour Apple energy drinks, fizzy cold brew coffees with Cranberry or Cola flavor, Espresso Martini and “Swimming Pool” cocktails, and alcohol-free Pale Ale and Stout.
Reaching new markets
The partnership marries Doehler’s ingredient expertise with Ardagh’s customer technical service and laboratory teams. The duo say the box will help customers cut long development times and reach new growing markets.
“These enormously diverse products all share the 360° experience of the Nitro Can: the powerful roar and aroma explosion on opening, the smooth, creamy texture and mouthfeel, and long-lasting foam,” says the company.
“Our ideas are ready-to-launch for Ardagh customers but can also be customized to suit specific branding and target markets.”
The Nitro Can has high potential in a number of growing markets, says Ardagh, particularly as consumers are purchasing more drinks for home consumption due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.
“RTD beverages are replacing the products most consumers previously enjoyed in cafés, bars and restaurants,” says a company spokesperson.
The Nitro Can is also being touted for its potential to turn drinks into special occasions by allowing consumers to relish the “theatre” of the can opening.
New flavors and novel consumption experiences are in demand, says Ardagh, and the Innovation Box is intended to infuse customers with ideas for new products.
Old tech, new drinks
Nitro cans first hit the market in late 2016 and quickly became popular for coffee drinks. In 2018, Ardagh launched the Kahlúa Espresso Martini, producing a RTD version of the drink with the same velvety texture as exists when made fresh.
In 2019, the company’s Nitro Can was adopted by UK cocktail mixer company Funkin Cocktails in a collaboration that saw the first-ever range of RTD nitro canned cocktails hit the shelves.
