Baosteel Steel Canmaking Supplies for Coca-Cola in China

The completion of Baosteel can making project enables Baosteel to form a complete industrial chain in the packaging business and also signifies the end of non-lid two piece Baosteel steel cans.

20 Mar 2012 --- Recently, Baosteel Canmaking, which is put into operation for only three months, successfully sovles many problems, wins Coca-Cola supplier qualification certification and officially begins lid making for Baosteel Metal's five subordinating canmaking companies. The completion of Baosteel can making project enables Baosteel to form a complete industrial chain in the packaging business and also signifies the end of non-lid two piece Baosteel steel cans.

In recent years, China's two-piece can industry develops very rapidly. Last year, total output of two piece cans reaches 18 billion. After years of development, Baosteel has now become a well-known two-piece steel can manufacturer in the world, with 3 billion annual production capacity. Previously Baosteel steel can lids are procured externally. With the strong support of the Group Corporation, on March 5 last year Baosteel Metal officially started the lid making project and it was put into production on October 10 the same year, with 2.35 billion annual output. As Baosteel Cans are made of steel, Baosteel Canmaking achieves technical breakthrough and becomes the first domestic easy-open lid enterprise capable of producing compatible steel cans.

After Baosteel Canmaking has supply capacity, Baosteel Metal packaging section will form 'steel & aluminum, can & lid combination' production mode so as to better meet the needs of customers. At the same time, the formation of complete and safe supply chain also shorten the distance between Baosteel Packaging and world-renowned packaging enterprises such as Transpack and Ball.

Due to optimistic lid making market prospects, recently Baosteel lid making 2nd phase project has also started and is expected to be put into operation in September this year. By then, Baosteel annual lid output capacity will reach 3.5 billion. At the end of this year, Baosteel lid making will also launch 3rd phase project, and strive to achieve 5.5 billion lid annual output capacity by 2013, laying foundation for the completion of 8 billion lid annual output by 2015 raised by Baosteel Metal business plan. After meet the 8 billion lid self-supporting demand, Baosteel lid making will turn to the external market and considering external supply.
