Bosch Packaging Technology to crack Bag-in-Box at PACK EXPO 2019
12 Jul 2019 --- Bosch Packaging Technology is demonstrating its single source bag-in-box system expertise, which covers the entire line from bagmaker and settler to product handling, end load cartoner and case packer. The company will be exhibiting two machines, the Kliklok Interceptor and Kliklok MEC, at the upcoming PACK EXPO 2019 in Las Vegas, US. The lines aim to respond to customers who are leaning toward automated lines as a solution for the limited number of employees to fill manual jobs, a Bosch spokesperson tells PackagingInsights.
Bosch is differentiated from other players in the market as they tout themselves as “a single source supplier of the complete line representing Bagmakers (bag), product settling, product handling, cartoning (Kliklok MEC) and case packers,” adds the spokesperson.
The market presence of Bag-in-box applications is increasing, the spokesperson notes, particularly being used for premium products.
“In essence, we are one-stop shopping for our customers who use bag-in-box applications. We also differentiate ourselves with pocket rededication – a means of controlling the entire line toward the benefit of the customer to maintain uptime and smooth production,” they explain.
At the show, the Bosch booth will be focusing on the bakery and cereal markets and the two machines on display will show efficient packaging of crackers: The product handling machine Kliklok Interceptor, which is designed to deposit bags directly onto its main conveyor by a bagmaker. The Midrange Endload Cartoner Kliklok MEC will be exhibited for the first time as a part of a bag-in-box line.
The machine stands out for its future-proof sanitary design, tool-less changeover and easy operator access. The control package pocket rededication allows the cartoner to maintain optimum speed matched to processing capacity. In addition, Bosch will introduce the new Elematic 2001 case packer as a virtual reality demo.
The Kilklok Interceptor uses a rotor vane system to drop products on the product infeed conveyor flights of end load cartoners, such as the Kiklok MEC. It typically handles four oz (113g) or heavier bags of food, and stands out for its hygienic stainless-steel design, which is IP65 rated.
If one bagmaker is temporarily removed from operation, due to reduced product availability or maintenance needs, the remaining units can be electronically reassigned to maintain full efficiency in filling every flight of the cartoner. Simple operation controls enable “pocket rededication” without disturbing the system’s ongoing performance.
Kliklok MEC: Easy access, sanitary design and fast format changes
The Kliklok MEC is designed to handle a wide range of carton sizes, reaching from a ¾ inch-thick pizza to a 4-inch-tall cake. It packs up to 170 cartons per minute. “We have designed the Kliklok MEC to meet our customers’ needs for future-proof sanitary construction as well as ease of use and maintenance. It also stands out for its fast format changes and good access,” says Janet Darnley, Product Manager at Bosch Packaging Technology.
The end load cartoner has full-length doors that allow walk-in access for easy changeovers and maintenance. Format changes are tool-less, easily repeatable, and can be completed by just one operator in ten to twelve minutes. With its open-channel stainless steel frame and angled surfaces, the machine complies with stringent sanitary standards. Moreover, the machine is IP65 washdown rated, which makes it easy to clean. An additional feature is the standard open flap detection to prevent opened or partially opened cartons from exiting the machine, which ensures high product quality.
A virtual walk
Trade show visitors will be able to experience a virtual Elematic world of case packing. In a digital VR showroom, customers will be able to see and compare the new Elematic 2001, the Elematic 1001 SL and the Elematic 3001 compact.
The case packer can handle a large selection of primary pack styles, such as flow wraps, cartons, cups and thermoforms. The new Elematic 2001 was developed specifically for products that are difficult to process, such as bags.
“We use a special process that allows carton forming without any pressure on the product. This takes the strain of the products,” Bernhard Vaihinger, product manager at Bosch Packaging Technology, explains. “With speeds of up to 40 cases per minute at an infeed rate of 600 products, it is one of the fastest and most flexible case packers on the market.”
Bosch Packaging Technology’s cartoning and case packing solutions will be visible at PACK EXPO from September 23 to 25, 2019. The company will also present its portfolio at FachPack in Nuremberg, Germany from September 24 to 26, 2019.
