Celanese Clarifoil® Cellulose Diacetate Film: Offering a Clear Advantage
Window cartons have become one of the prime cost effective forms of visual packaging, providing secure protection of goods paired with high visual impact and excellent graphic display opportunities. Not only the inter-linkage of film and board, but also the performance of the material is key in creating outstanding packaging solutions.
Clarifoil® cellulose diacetate films provide the most complete range of desirable properties for window cartons. Superb clarity and brightest gloss create a high quality impression to truly promote a product you can be proud of. In addition the hard-wearing and lay-flat surface over a range of conditions means that this pristine presentation stays looking as good as the day it left the factory.
Foodstuffs such as cakes, quiches, pies and pastries with high moisture contents emit considerable quantities of water vapour, especially when displayed in supermarket chill cabinets. If vapour cannot escape, the inside film surface fogs up, obscuring the contents and even potentially damaging the goods or leaving them prone to bacteriological build up. The excellent water vapour transmission rate of Clarifoil® cellulose diacetate films is a major advantage in achieving automatic de-misting and maintaining that critical clarity.
What about converters?
For the converter Clarifoil® cellulose diacetate films offer the ability to process at speed with minimal static. This enables the film's outstanding ability for accurate cutting to aperture size without blunting the cutting blade. Another prime feature is that it can be glued quickly and securely even under varying seasonal conditions - giving you confidence in future performance.
What are the environmental credentials?
Clarifoil® films derive from sustainably sourced raw material made from wood pulp from managed forestry. In addition, Clarifoil® films are home compostable and bio-degradable according to EN13432 and OK Compost Home. Legislation governing packaging waste requires that packaging weight and volume is kept to a minimum, so being able to choose the most appropriate film gauge is an important consideration. According to UK Packaging Waste Regulations, acetate is categorised together with paper and board for recovery and recycling purposes.
Innovation
As carton design becomes more innovative, the ability of the film to meet customised needs increases. Clarifoil ®, for instance, designed film with UV inhibitors to prolong the shelf life and appearance of products such as white chocolate and seafood which may be degraded by supermarket lighting.
Future developments include anti-microbial and thermochromic films, utilising Clarifoil's ability to modify film properties to meet specific end uses.
