Coveris combines premiumization and recyclability in envelope-style cartonboard fish pack
11 Mar 2021 --- Coveris has developed a luxurious and recyclable envelope-style cartonboard pack for Farne of Scotland’s private-label fish products.
The packaging combines premium shelf appeal and responsible design using specialist printing techniques and FSC sustainably-sourced and recyclable metalized board.
Coveris utilizes a combination of matte, gloss and embossed finishes for a premium look and feel. The product can be found on UK retail shelves.
“We were tasked with creating luxury and eye-catching packaging which is, importantly, recyclable,” Sam Johnson, new business development manager for Coveris’ Labels & Board Business Unit, outlines to PackagingInsights.
“We trialed different materials, print and finishes to achieve recyclability and the desired look and feel, but also efficiency and effectiveness on our presses.”
Coveris is only responsible for the outer cartonboard sleeve, not the inner plastic film component.
“The sleeve in an envelope-style design is recyclable within the standard cartonboard recycling infrastructure,” continues Johnson.
“As the envelope sleeve is the secondary packaging, it is designed to work with the product and enhance its on-shelf appeal.”
“The envelope style is typically displayed at the point of sale upright for an impactful presentation and excellent product visibility.”
No Waste sustainability strategy

- Joining forces within the industry to support the vision of no waste.
