29/09/07 Ditone Labels’ recent seminar detailing the requirements relating to Braille incorporation was a resounding success, with delegates and speakers giving 100 percent positive feedback on the day.
The seminar entitled ‘All you need to know about Braille and Packaging’ included social, legislative, commercial and operational aspects with a range of speakers including Steven Conlon (Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People), Tony Harper (UK principal expert and chairman of BSI Braille Panel PKW/0-02-F3), Ian Beadle (Boots) and Raymond Young (operations director, Ditone Labels).
Delegates from leading pharmaceutical manufacturers including Galpharm, Perrigo, Kimberly Clark and DDD Limited were given an insight into what the recently introduced legislation means to them and also to blind consumers, along with a factory tour to give a practical insight into Braille production.
Tony Harper, UK principal expert and chairman of BSI Braille Panel PKW/0-02-F3, said: ‘I was delighted to be involved in the seminar as it was an invaluable opportunity to meet directly with producers of pharmaceutical products, discuss what we are working on and to hear their challenges and concerns.’
The seminar offered delegates the chance to network with peers and discuss their individual projects giving a valuable forum for problem solving.
Steven Conlon of Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People said: ‘There is an underlying social responsibility to ensure Braille is included on the packaging of pharmaceutical products, it was interesting and encouraging to see this on the mainstream agenda as well as the importance surrounding client consultation.’
John Haworth, sales manager at Ditone said: ‘There is a lot of information circulating in the media about the incorporation of Braille at the moment which created a huge interest. The day was in fact over subscribed and we are looking at setting a date for another seminar as it is important that everyone understands their responsibilities and also all the options available to them relating to including Braille.’
