Dragon Launches ‘Oriental Silk’ Tall Dome Closure
Dragon Plastics Limited, the South Wales based closure manufacturer, has developed a closure moulded from a mix of polymer and additive that enables it to exhibit colour travel depending upon the angle at which it is caught by the ambient light. The initial offering will be the company’s 24mm R4 bore seal tall dome closure and colour travel will range from metallic grey to dusky pink and all intermediate colours within the spectrum.

The development work leading to Dragon’s Oriental Silk Closure, much of which was undertaken in close collaboration with Dragon’s masterbatch supplier Wrexham based Technical Colour Services Limited, was driven by the demands of a number of brand owners who were seeking greater shelf appeal and thus competitive advantage. The new closure range’s name; Oriental Silk, has been adopted because the colour travel within the mouldings closely resemble the multicoloured fine silk woven in Thailand and other oriental countries. ‘We are in the business,’ commented Dragon’s Marketing Director Rod Parker ‘of finding packaging solutions for extremely high value products, examples are toiletries, food or specialist beverages and these need a different and superior visual appeal. In many cases the closure both literally and metaphorically tops the entire packaging solution.’ ‘It is well known’ he continued ‘that the pack is frequently integral to the brand and tremendous competitive advantage can be gained by specifying state-of-the-art components which display attractive visual effects in all environments from the retail shelf to bathroom cabinet.
