Eureka’s Project to Develop a Laminated Multi-layer Packaging Material for Food

31/07/08 European research network Eureka has asked for plastics firms to participate in a project that will involve the development of laminated multi-layer packaging materials for food.

The aim, according to Eureka is “to design and apply new laminated packages (also incorporating non-plastics materials such as paper and aluminium) that will help to extend the shelf life of food products.”

The project currently has a budget of €2.58m and will last for two years and four months.

Participants include Turkey’s Oezbulut Gida San Tic; the Bulgarian Academy Of Sciences’ Institute Of Solid State Physics (Sti); the Czech University Of Life Sciences’ department of agricultural products quality; and Bulgaria’s Stara Zagora Chamber Of Commerce & Industry.

However, as with all Eureka projects, should other companies wish to join the consortium, budgets for these studies can be increased. They are coordinated centrally by Eureka, which has a strong track-record in promoting plastics innovation.
