Finalists And Public Choice Winner Singled Out In Stora Enso Recreate Packaging 2016
An elegant chocolate box inspired by the Bermuda Triangle and designed by students from Beuth University in Berlin, has won the Public Choice Award in the Stora Enso Recreate Packaging 2016 design competition.
An elegant chocolate box inspired by the Bermuda Triangle and designed by students from Beuth University in Berlin, has won the Public Choice Award in the Stora Enso Recreate Packaging 2016 design competition. Meanwhile, eleven designs in the student category and five designs in the professional category made their way to the final evaluation round by the jury and will compete for the awards to be granted in New York in May 2016.
The winner of the Public Choice Award used Stora Enso’s number one luxury packaging board Ensocoat to achieve the tactile surface and functional structure, which also includes a slot for a small greeting card or business card. Made from renewable board, the dark blue box with golden details received 2 411 votes on the competition website. Altogether 12,365 people submitted their vote on the Recreate Packaging competition website.
The total number of entries in the 2016 Recreate Packaging competition was higher than ever, in total 157. The final prize distribution amongst the finalists shortlisted in the student and professional categories will be decided by the Recreate Packaging jury, made up of renowned designers and experts from perfume, champagne and chocolate brands, as well as jury chairman Jari Latvanen, Head of the Consumer Board Division at Stora Enso. The results will be announced by Stora Enso on 11 May 2016, in connection with the Luxe Pack New York exhibition.
In the professional category, the five finalists shortlisted by the jury are:
- ChocBook by Uwe Melichar/Factor and Andra Teibaha and Girts Strumpmanis/Brandbox (Germany/Latvia)
- Trianguli by Magdalena Piehl and Johan Berglund, Studio Piehl (Sweden)
- Choco Block by Khushboo Mehta (India/Italy)
- Pivert Champagne by Gafs Kartong (Sweden)
- Alpine Milk Chocolate by Martin Sombathy, Joya LLC (United States)
In the student category, the eleven finalists shortlisted by the jury are:
- Flowing Treasure by Lia Rebettge, Clemson University (United States)
- Iroawase by Hiroko, Aalto University (Japan/Finland)
- Perfume packaging by Aleksandra Szestowicka, Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk (Poland)
- The French Chocolate Trip by Georges, Strate (France)
- Charlié dans la nature by Charlie Nyrjae and Kinna Anderson, Broby Grafiska (Sweden)
- Packaging of the perfume by Karolina Lademann, Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk (Poland)
- Chrysalis by Duncan K. Anderson, Lahti Institute of Design (Finland)
- The Smip by Tero Huutola, University of Lapland (Finland)
- Blå by Emil Shaw and Paul Mikkonen, Lahti Institute of Design (Finland)

The Stora Enso Recreate Packaging competition has served as a great platform for developing innovative renewable packaging design since 2012. This time, the competition focuses on three luxury packaging end-use areas: perfume & cosmetics, champagne & fine spirits and chocolate & confectionery. The board materials used for the designs include Ensocoat, CKB and Performa Brilliance by Stora Enso, and the challenge is to get the best out of the tactile properties of paperboard in luxury packaging.
