First Amcor TapeTop for Fresh Produce
Amcor Flexibles’ unique recloseable Amcor TapeTop packaging solution is being used to pack fresh produce for the first time.
03/04/06 UK supermarket retailer Tesco has chosen the innovative concept for its own label range of 5 Unwashed Salads.
Packed by Langmead Farms, the 60g recloseable bags of Rocket, Lamb’s Lettuce, Red Salad, Baby Leaf with Watercress and Rocket, and Crisp Leaf, went on sale in Tesco in February. The Amcor TapeTop bags are made from 35 micron OPP with antimist, flexo printed 7 colours at Amcor Flexibles Ledbury. The antimist system enhances the visibility of the salad on the retail shelf.
Amcor TapeTop is an innovative, patented pack concept which utilises a pre-cut band to give multiple reclosure of the pack.
The Amcor TapeTop system involves having a slightly wider reel of material than a standard bag. The additional width of the film is then cut and through a patented process known as "Cut & Transfer", can be positioned anywhere on the bag. The TapeTop band is then secured to the bag with a hotmelt adhesive supplied in this case by Henkel and can be used to reclose the pack a number of times as more of the product is used making it an ideal solution for any product typically not finished in one serving.
The system can be retrofitted to existing equipment or supplied with new bagging machines (VFFS). Langmead Farms choose CFS (Netherlands) for its machine modification.
Amcor TapeTop can be utilised with OPP and a range of peelable laminate structures. It can produce standard pillow bags, stabilo bags and can even be supplied by Amcor Flexibles as pre-made bags.
The TapeTop band is fully printable and therefore can be used for vouchers, competitions, portion control and general promotional opportunities.
