The print finishing firm’s head of sales, Arno Dürr said that the company believed this was the first time such a product had reached the market.
He said: “From what we know from our market knowledge, we are the first company that can offer such a lamination adhesive for food packaging.”
Head of technical services Dr. Alexander Faber added: "As far as we know there are also other lamination adhesive existing with food packaging approval on the market but we have never seen the approvals."
Excellent adhesion values
Senobond WB film laminating adhesive FP NDC 29-3536 375222 is a water-based, 2 component adhesive that the company claimed has excellent adhesion values for lamination of all common film types to absorbent substrates.
Dürr explained that the product was suitable for “all types of food packaging”, had approval from an independent institute and met the latest EU regulations on food packaging.
He said: “Food packaging is obviously a very hot topic at the moment. I am not a chemist – but I can tell you that the regulations for food packaging are becoming increasingly strict. This is the reason why we developed a lamination adhesive especially for food packaging.”
Increasing tough regulations
Dürr added that it had been “impossible” until now for food producers to use low-migration film laminating adhesives due to the increasingly tough regulations.
He said: “It’s not so common to use film lamination adhesives in food packaging, but in the last 6, 8 or 10 years, there was no product with this application.”
Having developed the new adhesive, Dürr claimed that Weilburger was able to “close a gap in the field of food packaging”.
Weilburger’s new adhesive would provide “completely new opportunities for producers and designers in the field of food conform packaging,” he added.
Customers involved in trade finishing had already shown interest in the new adhesive, Dürr said, and were using it in production.
