Gerresheimer Presents Glass and Plastic at Ispack in Tel Aviv

18/01/07 The Gerresheimer Group is displaying a cross-section of its multifaceted packaging and systems range for the pharmaceutical industry. The thematically laid out exhibition covers moulded and tubular glass as well as many types of plastic in a wide variety of forms and design variants: from minutely detailed ampoules to innovative tablet dispensers, high-calibre sterile syringes and accessories of all kinds, visitors can see the latest status of developments for all requirement areas.

In the entire field of pharmaceutical glassware it is the largest and most diversified specialist in the world. In the sector of prefillable injection systems it enjoys an international reputation as the technology leader, particularly for its sterile ready-to-fill syringes. At the trade fair in Tel Aviv, Gerresheimer appears at the invitation of its well-known Israeli trading partner Archem – with four display cases full of highlights.

• Pharmaceutical moulded-glass packaging – with glass types I, II and III - covers all the relevant material classes and offers unusual possibilities in each category. All the common sizes and, for example, mouth shapes can be chosen for bottles and jars. In addition to flint and amber glass Gerresheimer even produces coloured glass and opaque opal glass. • Borosilicate tubular glass in type I is converted by Gerresheimer into a wide variety of high-calibre end products – starting with a comprehensive packaging range of medicine bottles, ampoules and cartridges. Key strengths lie not only in the shaping technology but also in the material. Gerresheimer does not just shape the borosilicate glass tubes into finished containers but – as a vertically integrated manufacturer – also produces the fine-walled tubes itself as input products.

• The display by the Tubular Glass Division is characterised by high-tech brilliance particularly in the area of injections. In the product range from the Gerresheimer competence centre Bünder Glass, which specialises in this field, matched cartridges and prefillable bulk-merchandise syringes, and in particular the sterile syringes under the trademark RTF (Ready to Fill), are particularly noteworthy. On display are also many interesting accessories – particularly a range of precision needles and complementary systems offering maximum convenience and safety. In the market these have been received extremely well: a recently published study confirms that, for example, the Tamper Evident Luerlock Closure (TELC), which combines the tamper-evident syringe closure and the needle adapter in a single part, is given top marks for practical benefit. Almost in parallel, the Rigid Needle Shield (RNS) was awarded a 'WorldStar' by the World Packaging Organisation as the perfect needle protector which also effectively avoids needle-prick injuries.

• Intelligent diversity in plastic rounds off the presentation. Gerresheimer’s Plastic Packaging Division provides an overview of its extremely varied product range tailored from a wide range of plastics to cater for both solid and liquid medications. In addition to packaging, dosage and application systems – for eye drops, nasal sprays and dehydrated antibiotics to name just a few examples - it produces under the trademarks Duma and Dudek a unique variety of products for the large market for medicines in tablet form. The latest developments here include tamper-evident twist-off closures - with integrated desiccant which is now also produced by Gerresheimer itself in Værlœse in Denmark.
