Heinz Uses Payne's Tear Tape for Easy-Open Packaging
Overwrapping was agreed to be the most appropriate solution for the multi-packs of Heinz Baby Rice, Breakfasts and Dinners baby food, as long as a fast and safe means of removing the film could be developed.
Aug 5 2010 --- A creative use of Payne tear tape has enabled Heinz to reduce secondary packaging for its Heinz Baby Rice, Breakfasts and Dinners range of baby foods without compromising speed and convenience for shelf stackers in-store.
Heinz was keen to improve the cost-effectiveness and practicality of transferring products to shelf, as well as reducing packaging waste. Overwrapping was agreed to be the most appropriate solution for the multi-packs of Heinz Baby Rice, Breakfasts and Dinners baby food, as long as a fast and safe means of removing the film could be developed.
For several years, Heinz has been using Payne’s Supastrip tear tape for easy opening across a range of products and recognised that tear tape would also provide a solution at the secondary or retail packaging level. The integration of Supastrip into the overwrap ensures a visible point of entry to the film that is quick and effective.
For added convenience, the tear tape tab protrudes beyond the seal area to deliver a prominent opening feature that is easily visible to the shelf-stacker.
“The combination of overwrap and Payne Supastrip ensures a comprehensive secondary packaging system that meets retailer demand for reduced waste, cost-effectiveness, speed, convenience and safe opening,” confirms John Hebblethwaite, Heinz Packaging Technologist. “We are delighted with Payne’s role in bringing the great taste and nutritional benefits of Heinz Baby Rice, Breakfasts and Dinners to shelves.”
