Herma is now offering an economy thermal paper that is completely free from bisphenol. This follows the addition of a BPA-free economy thermal paper to its product range last year.
HERMAtherm BPfree (code 911) is suitable for food weighing applications and is said to produce very good results when printed with EAN barcodes and other code systems. Print speeds of up to 250 mm/s are possible with direct thermal printing.
‘All the expert reports by leading European assessment bodies indicate that bisphenol A in labels does not pose any risk to health,’ stressed Dr Thomas Baumgärtner, managing director, Herma. ‘Nevertheless, BPA has repeatedly come under scrutiny in other contexts, frequently under the general heading of bisphenol.
For this reason we are now using a label material that does not contain any bisphenols at all. This will allow both label printers and label users in the food industry and retail sector in particular to make clear, unambiguous statements and avoid lengthy discussions.’
Herma is continuing its strategy of developing and marketing all-purpose self-adhesive materials endowed with added value, in particular as regards their health and environmental credentials. It recently developed particularly low-migration adhesives and has launched a self-adhesive material in which both the label paper and the siliconized liner are made from recycled material. This product received the Blue Angel environmental seal of approval.
