06/05/08 The tray base absorbs and retains all meat juices fresh meat and poultry products release during their shelf life. The thermoformed trays are completely made of PP (polypropylene) and no separate pads or chemical absorbers are used.
These new self-absorbent trays help to reduce overall packaging waste as separate pads are no longer needed. Furthermore, mono-material trays are hygienic in use and eliminate the risk of any dust or fibers potentially coming off from separate absorbent pads.
For meat packers these mono-material trays create saving in the supply chain and simplify their packaging operations. At the supermarket meat and poultry products look much more attractive when meat juices are safely absorbed and kept inside the tray base.
Huhtamaki's new self-absorbing meat trays are stackable and run well on all standard filling and sealing lines. The MAP (modified atmosphere packaging) proof trays can be closed with top film, flow packing or overwrapping.
