Rising supermarket prices, food miles concerns and the trend for organic products have seen consumers turn to local farm shops and dairies for local, affordable milk.
Seaways Services, a specialists glass printing company based in Simonstone, Lancashire, has seen an increase in farm shops and dairies placing orders for large, one litre glass bottles to sell fresh, organic milk on tap.
More and more farm shops and small, organic dairies across the UK are selling raw, unpasteurised milk to customers keen to cut their carbon footprint by supporting local businesses and develop more of an awareness of where their food comes from.
It also gives small farms and dairies the chance to milk the profits of their hard work after well-publicised disputes with the large corporations who supply dairy products to national supermarket chains. The milk is stored in large vending machines and customers are invited to dispense their own milk into the bespoke, branded bottles supplied by Seaways or bring their own container along to save money.
Seaways Services currently supplies specialist one litre bottles to four dairy and farm shop customers, including Nell's Dairy in Gloucester and Fen Farm Dairy in Suffolk but the company believes more and more farms and dairies will soon offer this service to customers keen for a taste of the good life.

Jayne Shaw, managing director of Seaways Services, said: "This is a fantastic way for farmers and micro-dairies to take control, bring in some much-needed extra income and offer customers exactly what they want - fresh, affordable milk produced by happy cows reared on their doorstep.
"We expect demand for the one litre bottles to shoot up over the next 12 months as more and more farmers cotton on to this brilliant idea that harks back to the good old days."
